How accessible is Googlemaps compared to GIS solutions?
I’ve not experimented with the API extensively, however if you have a look at the no-JavaScript version of Google maps, it is actually quite nice usability wise. That gives an indication of the type of interface that would be quite straightforward to make accessible. The important aspect of accessibility is the information, Camden have a good approach, where there are obviously quite a few systems being brought in to this central method of finding things. In terms of comparing to the standard GIS solutions, they are difficult to use for people with no access issues, and don’t tend to be aimed at finding information on the web. They come from more of an installed program type of interface.
