How a Ribbon lake is formed ?
Ribbon lakes are formed by a glacier moving 1-2 meters day, the glacier moves down the mountain until it reaches the bottom were it comes across the hard rock or other wise know as resistant rock. As the glacier moves along part of the rock becomes softer this means that the rock as less resistant. Were the rock is softer it Allows the glacier to dig part of the rock out into a dip this only happens until the rock hits the hard rock again. Because of the dip in the rock, you usually get cracks on the edge of the glacier unforchunaly this mean that it is open to freeze-thaw this happens when the cracks become full of rain from the day then freezes at night the water then expands by 10% coarsening the rock to loosen. While freeze-thaw is happening, the glacier is still moving but because there is loose rock the glacier can pluck the rocks out of the ground this is called ground moraine. As well plucking the rocks the glacier also uses abrasion the sand paper affect sand away the rock. As
