Both types work if they are presented well. I disagree with those that say slow moving zombies aren’t scary. Yes, you can outrun them, but for how long? There are a lot of them coming from all directions and they just keep coming. And you can’t stop to rest because they’ll smash through your house or car to get you. (I’m assuming that people want to survive longer than the first three minutes of the zombie attack.) The scariest part of zombie movies is there is usually no chance of stopping the invasion. In a haunted house movie, you leave the house. In a vampire movie, you stay in the sunlight and bring wooden stakes. Even the serial killer who can never be killed offers some respite when it’s not the anniversary of his death or his first kill and even then he can only be in one place at one time. But once a zombie invasion starts, you have to fight to survive every minute from then on, because any one of them can pop up anytime, anywhere.
