Holy smokes! what happened to the Green bay packers?
Why do they deserve this? Favre retired. Rodgers has done fine in the QB position. What happened was injuries to defense. They lost their best pass rusher for the season (Jenkins was leading the league in sacks when he went down), their defensive leader (Barnett has lead the team in tackles four years in a row), lost Al Harris for over a quarter of the season and can’t keep their safeties healthy. That spells trouble. People want to get all over this Favre BS but they have to get over it. QB is not the problem. Favre has nothing to do with the defensive chemistry and historically throws picks like a madman when the defense is struggling. (See the Dallas game last season, the St. Louis playoff game, the whole 4-12 season.) Who cares if Favre is never back, the guy is 40, old and playing average. His defense and running game is carrying him this year. Sorry but seeing how Pennington is playing, the Jets would be just as better of if not better with Chad stil around. Look even if Rodgers
If you look at points scored per game and points allowed per game, the fact of the matter is, Brett Favre having left has absolutely nothing to do with how the Packers are doing. Rodgers is having a great first year as a starter and the Packers’ points scored per game is nearly identical to that of last year when they won 13 games. If you look at points allowed per game, that stat has risen by nearly 5 points per game. So, the simple fact is, the Green Bay defense has not been finishing games. They didn’t finish against Tampa Bay, they didn’t finish against Atlanta, they didn’t finish against Tennessee, Minnesota, Carolina, Houston, Jacksonville and so on. All of those games mentioned (aside from Tampa Bay) were lost by 4 points or less. So, again, this has nothing to do with Favre. As a Packer fan, I’m glad he’s enjoying success, but it was time to move on. He pulled the “I think I’m going to retire” card one too many times and we couldn’t risk losing our QB of the future after he fin
I knew I wasn’t the only one to feel this way. I have been a Packer Fan longer than most people on here have been alive and I find myself cheering against the Packers for the way they handled the Favre situation. I didn’t spend a dime on new Packer gear this year and I stopped attending games and I wont until Thompson and McCarthy are fired. I’m sure Brett is smiling as well since he will be playing in the post season while Thompson & McCarthy will be trying to figure out why they suck. Packer Fans better get use to it, this is just the start. They are the youngest Team in the League but they are old in key positions. Driver, Harris, Woodson, Clifton, Tauscher will all have to be replaced very soon. Meanwhile Go Jets !!!!!!!
The defense has failed to do their jobs this season. I agree that the Packers should never have gotten rid of Favre, and I too are hoping both McCarthy and Thompson are fired soon, but I don’t blame Aaron Rodgers. He has been averaging 23 points a game, so it is definitely not an offensive problem. Being a Packer fan, this was a tough year to swallow-I’ve been a fan 47 years, and although I wanted them to win, I also wanted them to lose for the entire way they handled the Favre situation. I wish Brett the best of luck in NY!
