According to the EPA, the 2006 Scion xB automatic emits 6.6 tons of CO2 for every 15,000 miles driven: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/2008car1tablef.jsp?id=22127 The 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid emits 4.4 tons of CO2 for every 15,000 miles driven: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/compx2008f.jsp?year=2008&make=Honda&model=Civic%20Hybrid&hiddenField=Findacar Basically the Civic Hybrid emits about 33% less CO2 than the Scion xB. Personally I’d rather go with a Toyota Prius than the Civic Hybrid though. The Civic Hybrid uses a friction-belt-driven CVT transmission and torque converter, while the Prius uses a toothgeared PSD transmission with the electric motor directly geared to the wheels (which is simpler and more durable).
