Help me understand my first PCS!! When will the movers come, etc?
Stay in contact with your Personal Property/Household Good Office (PPO/HHGO). The paperwork you listed travel dates on should go to them. They should schedule packing and loading your stuff with you and then contact the company you’ll move with. They should be giving you exact dates once that process is done. And put you in contact with the company so they can estimate how much space you’ll need and how much time the packing will take. I’ve never done an overseas move but I believe they have 2 different shipments of stuff. One small one for stuff you’re going to need quickly and then all the rest of the stuff. You might want to contact your PPO/HHGO office or your base family services office to see if they have a moving class. The one the Navy offers has a lot of information and is great even if you’ve moved before because rules do change. I’m sure the AF would have something similar. Oh, and the class should cover what prep work you need to do. Anything you pack the moving company doe
On all our moves, I made sure to have soft drinks and bottled water, as well as snacks (small bags of chips, cookies, brownies, etc) available for the movers. They were always extremely appreciative and letting them know you appreciate thier doing most of the work for you tends to make them more aware of how they treat your items. Gift cards are a nice idea, but as government contracted workers, they legally are not allowed to accept cash gifts or tips. Not to say they wouldn’t take it, but it could be a gray area. You should find out when the movers will be there when you spouse does his PCS orientation. You can have some say in it, but there is a set schedule of when certain things will be packed. You will actually have two pack out dates. One will be your general baggage…the bulk of your things will go in this, larger shipment. You will have another pack out for household goods. This will be a much smaller shipment and is meant to get basic items you will need to you faster than t
WOW! You are really new to this. You need to smack your hubby upside his head and have him take you to your posts Household Goods office or the travel office or whatever hey are calling it. He got briefed by them so he could set up the move. You should have been in on this brief, or at the very least got the info from him. The movers are contracted by the Air Force and ANYTHING they break can be claimed at your next duty station. Also, you don;t need to pack a single thing. You’re correct in assuming that it is tier job. Also, you should be able to get “loaner” furniture and goods from your next duty station. There should be a facility at RAFB that will have “loaner” furniture and household goods until your stuff shows up. TAKE PICTURES!!! MAKE SURE THEY CAN BE DATED!!! I suggest packing your fragile items and heirloom items. Heck, anything you consider precious, you should pack carefully before they get there. It’s been a long time since I last PCS’ed, so I have forgotten all the name
