Help! Does anyone have ideas for how to make a cookie volcano?
Take a piece of stiff cardboard and roll it into a cone shape or you could use a metal funnel. You will want to cut the bottom so that the cone will stand. Now apply the prepared cookie mix in a thin layer to the cone leaving the top of the cone bare. Remove the racks from the upper portion of the oven and bake until done. Now, melt some chocolate chips in the microwave stirring every 20 seconds until melted. Pour down the side of the volcano. If you want, you could mash down the top of the cardboard cone and place a small bowl filled with melted chocolate in the top of the volcano. Add some oil to the chips as they are melting (about 1/4 c. / 1 c. chips) to keep the chocolate liquid. An alternative to the chips might be chocolate icing. You will find it in small tubs in the cake mix aisle. Melt a small amount in the microwave for drizzling. You won’t need to thin this to put in a bowl, just add a small knife for spreading on cookie. Remove the bowl from top before people start eating
I guess it depends what type of volcano you want to do. Are you looking for the type where you mold the cookie dough into a volcano and bake it? Then you put the chocolate inside the center? Or are you looking for the type where you would bake individual cookies and then piece them together to make a volcano looking cake? If you were to do the cookie part then this is what I would do. I would bake his favorite cookies about 3 dozen. Then I would create your bottom layer outlining the base of the volcano. You need to use a frosting of some sort so that you can use it as blue with the cookies. This will ensure they will stay in place. So every time you place a cookie make sure you put a dab of frosting on the bottom to secure it. Build your volcano as large or high as you want. For the base I would suggest getting a cake board (it’s cardboard meant for these things) and doubling the board to make it extra thick so that you can move the cake.
