Heart Shaped World: What is a Wizard?
Wizards were proto-scientists, they made the first explorations (often fraught with explosions and other deadly catastrophes) into the realms of today’s sciences. Invariably multi-disciplined – in the jack of all, master of none mould – they were often great dabblers driven by a passionate curioisity about the whats hows and whys of everything. Wizards were responsible for developing stellar navigation, gunpowder and the first stirrings of psychology, all long before today’s sciences were established. There is something intrinsically male about a Wizard but it has never been exclusive of the female of the species. Think of the garden shed/garage tinkering, car maintaining, d-i-y, anorak wearing, nerdy IT obsessive, gadget freakish… not exclusively male but a fair predominance.
