Heart rate constant at 125 bpm – should i worry?

You don’t give your age. Sounds you are doing too much too soon. My heart once went up to 118 when they had me on a treadmill at the hospital. I was just getting hotter and hotter, and keeping pce with the treadmill. I calmed down after. Runners, I understand, by keeping up the practice, eventually their heart slows down. The more you excerise, the better it is for your heart and lungs. If your surgery has a telephone appointment line, why don’t you make an apointment and ask your doctor. This way, she/he will ask you either to go in for a check-up or explain what is happening. Your surgery may have this system and you may not know. (I didn’t at one time.

It would have been useful to know what your heart rate was at rest. It would also be invaluable to know your age as the heart rate tends to increase with the years. Top athletes (especially cyclists) like Miguel Indurain and Lance Armstrong had very low heart rates when they were not doing any physical exercise. I think Indurain’s was around 38bpm and Armstrong’s around 42. But when they were competing their heart rate often reached 200bpm when they were really pushing themselves. However, and this is important, their heart rate quickly dropped when they finished this burst of exercise. The thing to bear in mind is not the bpm that you can reach, but the speed at which the body can get back to normal. 16 minutes for a heart to be working at 125bpm at rest is worrying. It seems to me that you over did the exercise. Do you do regular exercise? If you do, I would see a doctor. If you don’t do regular exercise, or if you have just started, or if you have just gone back to working out after

Just sounds like you need to get into shape more, or learn to calm your heart down some way after excerise. It might be worth checking it out with someone in the fitness field or doctor to be sure.

You should get a checkup with your doctor before continuing your workout program. You did the right thing by getting off of the treadmill when you began to feel lightheaded and weird. As for the length of time it took you to recover a normal heart rate, that would depend on how well-conditioned your body already is and whether you are used to doing aerobic acitivity or whether you are just starting to exercise. Regardless, since you got lightheaded and felt weird (which it sounds like this is not a normal occurance for you), then please get checked by a physician before continuing with your exercise program. In the meantime, go immediately to an ER if you experience any chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, unexplained lightheadedness or dizziness, or unexplained sweatiness and nausea. These could be signs of a cardiac problem.

Your max heart rate should be 220 minus your age (generally). You should be exercising at approx 75% of this maximum heart rate. If you feel dizzy etc, etc then you should stop and consult a medic. Ensure you are assessed as fit to take exercise before you do your workout.
