Having some real problems with USB and SoundMAX?

You could try to go on your motherboard’s maker website and check if there is a bios update that would solve that kind of issue. Careful though, flashing the bios is a risky operation: if it fails your computer will become unusable and this is usually not covered by your warranty. Another thing you want to try first is downloading a live version of Linux (like Ubuntu), burn it on CD, throw it in your computer and try to boot on it instead of XP, to see if you get the same behavior. Same problems would mean high chances of faulty bios, no problem would mean driver or configuration issue for XP.
