Strong opposition from groups against fluoridation has led to a number of European countries such as the Netherlands, Finland and Sweden withdrawing water fluoridation schemes. However, many European countries use fluoride in other sources to prevent tooth decay. For example France, Switzerland, Germany and other European countries use fluoridated salt widely.
