Have Republicans in Texas Ruined Public Education?
Republicans in Texas have repeatedly shown that they care more about partisan battles than Texas school children. The ugly political grand-standing displayed by Governor Rick Perry, as well as the Republican-dominated Texas Board of Education, suggest that Texas Republicans care more about indoctrinating school children than educating them. Texans everywhere should be embarrassed at the changes made to the state curriculum by the racist and deeply partisan Republicans on the Texas Board of Education. Republicans on the Board attempted to remove the discussion of almost all Hispanic historical figures, and only restored Cesar Chavez other influential Hispanic Americans to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills after Latino activists strenuously objected. Even more embarrassingly, these extremists attempted to remove the study of Thomas Jefferson, one of the most important founding fathers, because they objected to his dangerous idea about the separation of church and state.
