Subsidy is nothing but your handset is locked to vodafone carrier.. you could remove the lock by purchasing subsidy code from any vendors online like Onlinegsmunlock.com

once unlocked you can use any carrier to it

Subsidy password means that your phone is locked on to Virgin’s network, you can unlock this through Virgin directly, it costs £15 but it does mean if you accidentally block the phone (by entering an incorrect number) they will replace the phone free of charge. Whatever you do don’t guess the password as if it’s entered incorrectly the phone will become permanently locked. You can contact Virgin by email at theteam@virginmobile.com However, they will ask you to be ‘secure’ this means that you’ve already given your password. To send a secure email visit www.virginmobile.com then hit ‘Your account’ at the top of the page if you’ve already set one up log in if not click ‘create my account’ fill in the details – you will need the mobile number for your Virgin SIM to do this online. Once you’re in your account you need to hit ‘contact us’ this is buried in the small print at the very bottom of the page – click via email and type ‘please can I have my unlock codes’ for whatever phone it is.
