Have jobs in the tourism industry taken a leap in the recent years?
Tourism accounts for eight percent of the state’s domestic product. Many old and neglected palaces and forts have been converted into heritage hotels. With growth of tourism infrastructure in form of hotels/resorts and weekend destinations, there has been a significant growth of jobs in skilled and semi skilled areas.Tourism has increased employment in the hospitality sector. India has tremendous potential to become a major tourist destination. What can the government do to explore this potential? The product up-gradation in the tourism sector is the call of the day and the government should take a proactive approach in developing public-private partnerships. It should work towards developing world class infrastructure and providing services of the same benchmark to be effectively termed the preferred tourist destination of world.
