Play.com sell 100% genuine products. As long as your purchase was with Play.com and not from the Play Trade (individual users selling their unwanted products) then it will be 100%genuine. If the disc still does not run on your machine and you know for certain that your machine is capable of the required specs for the game then I would say to get in touch with Play.com via their Help Desk. I have worked for Play.com as it is based on the Island where I live so I know that they are a genuine company that I use for all my dvd/games/music/pc needs.
