Have EM TALA issues around EDs turning away ‘walk-in’ patients that should be sent to ‘flu centers’ been thought through?
B. There should be a way to utilize the existing structure to work this through. With the current changes in Health Care funding and the increase in uninsured patients, we need to take a look at where these people will go to get their health care during a pandemic. If they would instinctively go to emergency rooms, then we might want to consider setting up the clinics by or near ERs. This way we could utilize staff and resources better. Bottom line, we need to take a creative way to work within the system we have.
