Have certain expenses been paid out directly by the Port of Anchorage or Municipality of Anchorage with non-federal funds that have not been administered by the Maritime Administration?
As a condition of receiving the 404 permit from the Corps of Engineers, the Port of Anchorage will set aside $8.9 million for Compensatory Mitigation, paid into an escrow account directly by the Port. The projects on which that money will be spent will be determined by an oversight committee led by the Municipality’s Office of Economic and Community Development. In addition to ongoing operations and maintenance costs associated with day-to-day operations, the Port of Anchorage continues to have its own capital improvement program to include security updates, pile repair, and operations/maintenance expenses that are not included in the federal expansion project, managed locally.
