The Historian / High Priest / General of the Army, Josephus, who published Antiquities of the Jews and Wars of the Jews around 90AD claims in the preface to the work that the Roman General Vespasian gave him permission to remove artifacts of his choice from the Temple prior to its destruction in 70AD. Among the priceless treasures was the version of the Old Testament as edited by Ezra and “Rabbinical Literature”. Immediately before Solomon’s Temple and the City of Jerusalem were leveled, around 595BC, the Chaldean leader Nebuchadnezzar removed (looted) Religious artifacts and transported them to Babylon. Within 60 years the Chaldean Empire had been destroyed by the Persians. Cyrus of Persia made Babylon his Capitol, granted the captive Jewish Priests permission to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their Temple.
