Have any SIGGRAPH volunteer leaders traveled to New Orleans during the conference planning cycle and if, yes, what were their impressions?
The SIGGRAPH 2009 Planning Committee has been holding face-to-face meetings in New Orleans since October of 2007 and will continue to do so through the conference. They are very pleased with the progress that the city has made not only in recovering from Katrina, but also in further upgrading the accessibility to New Orleans’ unique culture, cuisine, and quality accommodations beyond pre-Katrina status. Additionally, the service standard experienced has been consistently high. The committee is very comfortable that the downtown area is rejuvenated and ready to host SIGGRAPH 2009. However, there are some outlying areas of the city that are still in need of assistance. (See information on SIGGRAPH 2009 outreach programs below.
