Well, the deal with castor oil is that it will only work if your body and baby are ready. There are many factors that play into it, for example, you should not take it to induce labor if you are any less than 40-41 weeks otherwise it really might just give you diarrhea and nothing else. There are lots of horror stories about castor oil; that it will make you super sick, that it will give you horrible cramps and vomiting, diarrhea, that it willl make your baby pass meconium in the womb, etc There is some truth to those horror stories. It really also depends on the dosage you take. I would say the safe dosage to induce labor would be 2 tbsp. Some people say to take 4 oz or so and that is just ridiculous and suicidal! That would hurt soo much and make you super sick! It also depends if your body is ready; if you’ve been having contractions, loose stools, if you’re past your due date, if baby has descended, etc Mostly it should only be used as a natural way to avoid a chemical induction.
