Powell is a politician and broadband is a hot button topic for many Americans. He will earn considerable points if he could deliver broadband. Whether you’re a Democrat or Republican, liberal, moderate, or conservative, you have to recognize the political realities of the current FCC administration. This administration doesn’t support regulation, and won’t take the necessary steps to subsidize/fund/mandate/encourage DSL, Cable, and wireless deployment in rural areas. On the contrary, Powell has worked to preserve these monopolies. Additionally, the Bush Administration is very pro energy business and pro big business, so electric utilities and their lobbyist organizations are calling the shots with the FCC.
