No, because it is. They are not lying and you may be certain that if they’re saying, all the major nuclear weapon armed nations knew it anyway. Just because we’re apparently all friends these days does not mean no one is checking for our secrets any more. A nuclear weapon is only of any use against a fully organised military enemy or a nation which is invading yours. You cannot use nuclear weapons to fight terrorism, as even the smallest tactical warheads can kill every one in a two mile radius of ground zero. Look at the condemnation falling on deaf ears in Israel at the moment. Imagine how much worse that would have been if they’d detonated a nuclear weapon in the centre of Gaza City. I would sincerely hope that the government will not use this as an excuse to renew a nuclear deterrent which will never see action, when the cost of it would buy a dozen modern, state of the art, surface ships which are badly needed by the Royal Navy.
