Has the Zoo conducted an environmental review of the California! Project?
The Oakland Zoo’s Master Plan was fully evaluated in an Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration, which was adopted by the City in 1998 when it approved the Master Plan. The Initial Study/Mitigated Declaration examined the potential environmental impacts associated with the full implementation of the Master Plan, including all the improvements planned for the three landscape areas of the Arboretum, the Zoo, and California 1820 (now called “California!” or the “California Trail”). In connection with the proposed revisions to the California Trail exhibit in 2010, the City of Oakland has been directing the preparation of a new California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) document.
