The Board of Regents voted for the change in December 2008 and asked UHD to identify a specific name for Regents to consider The Regents decided to change UHD’s name to: • End confusion between UHD and UH • Increase private support for student scholarships and programs • Give UHD an identity that acknowledges its growth and impact on Houston as the University of Houston pursues recognition as a Tier I institution.
