Unfortunately, the Surgeon General’s report has done little to boost activity levels in the United States. In this technologically advanced age, far too many people, especially youths, do not participate in enough physical activity to maintain an adequate level of health. The Surgeon General’s report has done an excellent job of reporting this fact, but has had little impact on the promotion of physical activity. According to the report, the current generation of school-aged youths is one of the most sedentary ever. Youths participate in much less physical activity than in the past, resulting in lower overall levels of health and wellness. These facts alone should raise a red flag for parents, teachers, and society in general.
