Has the IPO market suffered recently as cyclicals have outdone tech stocks?
I think we’ve seen somewhat of a downturn in the IPO market on the margins. For example, last week COMPS.com was the first Internet IPO to go below its offering price. Net Objects also had a very tepid performance last week. Money is starting to be allocated to other areas such as cyclicals. Investors are also getting more selective about the IPOs coming onto the market and won’t just accept a company because it has a .com or some relationship to the Internet. I agree there is a shift, but I think this is a healthy shift that was inevitable. Strong high quality Internet companies such as TheStreet.com will continue to do very well as IPOs.
