Has the economic slowdown become and excuse for companies to fire employees?
I don’t know if “excuse” is the right word. Perhaps “opportunity” would be more accurate. The economic slowdown is absolutely an opportunity for companies to fire employees. It’s necessary if they have more employees than are needed to do the work, and it’s sensible to keep the best possible team for the future, by firing or laying off the least fitting employees. Those let go aren’t necessarily bad employees, just not the best fits for the future.
