Has the College ignored union letters and declined to negotiate with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)?
Not at all. The College has promptly responded to all communications and requests for information from the SEIU leadership. Furthermore, the College is engaged in good faith negotiations with the Union that were initiated at the College’s request in mid-January 2010. Dartmouth did reject a union request for a moratorium on layoffs, replying in January that it cannot afford to delay critical budget decisions, particularly given the scale and urgency of the financial challenges we face.
