Has Madonna abused British hospitality by bringing a Malawian child into our Country?
At this point I understand that the child is simply a tourist in Britain with the consent of his parent and his government. Madonna cannot reasonably expect to qualify under UK law for inter-country adoption in any reasonable or practicable time. Her lawyers are looking to other countries for that, principally various US states. She’ll re-establish residence there (she is already domiciled in a US state under English law and she is a US citizen; under US law she is domiciled in England but that will change as soon as she returns to one of her US homes and says she will “stay indefinitely”. Meanwhile she can continue to bring the child to the UK for 182 days a year without immigration or adoption law issues arising. And once she has a US adoption order she can almost certainly have it honoured in the UK since there is a common citizenship: the child will automatically become a US citizen under the new child adoption rules there.
