He was forced into it for the period of time in which he was in the hospital. Anyone who has ever known someone addicted to something knows that forcing them to give it up isn’t the best approuch. Really, someone needs to be willing to give it up on their own. Even then, it becomes a very rough fight. Since Kyo had no urge to really give it up, there was about a snowball’s chance in hell of him really doing it. So HE didn’t try, but others MADE him try.
