You would think so, based on a report published Monday by the Catholic World News which cited an “indirect communication” from the Vatican declaring that Kerry has incurred “automatic excommunication” by virtue of his pro-abortion stance. The report is circulating via forwarded email and has been repeated on several conservative Websites. However, the Vatican responded today that the controversial missive, authored by Father Basil Cole of Washington, D.C., expressed only the writer’s private views and not the official opinion of the Catholic Church.
