Has it been considered that the DDA businesses contribute to street scape funding?
It is important to note the DDA is a separate legal entity. This entity “captures” revenue from the growth in property values that lie within the DDA. The City’s role is to appoint members of the Committee and approve their budget. We also “partner” in projects that involve shared infrastructure, such as 14 Mile Rd. and Main St. In addition to the “capture” described above, the DDA is funded by a special assessment of 2 mils on all properties in the DDA. It is these funds, not the Cities general revenues, that are used to fund their operations, grants and various programs. Currently DDA funds are being used for planning and development work. The City and the DDA, where applicable, will be applying for state and federal aid funds for street scape.
