I should leave well alone as my GSD also has a mammary tumour which in vets opinion will far outlive her,my JR terrier previously lived to age 26 had 3 tumours and went on to be voted oldest dog in Bedfordshire bless her.It is dangerous for a vet to use anaesthetic on an old dog as many of them do not react well to it at all and die.Take a 2nd opinion.Speak to jack russel breeders club association and see what expert members breders also recommend.
