It’s good to see you have an open mind and are willing to accept answers from everyone. Anyway, it’s a lot more common than you think amongst the alt meds. There was a Radio 4 documentary about trepanners a few years ago, one of whom picked up a DIY kit from the 17th C from an antiques store, and not only did he do himself he also did his wife. Unfortunately it’s out of the BBC archives now.
