I am an Antonia Fraser fan so my views are bias. She gets ‘slammed’ by scholarly historians who demands dozens of pages of dry text about the most mundane maters, but is beloved for her ability to bring the dead back to life; making historical names into living breathing people that ‘modern audiences’ can identify with. The biggest criticism of “Marie Antoinette’ is that the book tends to be sympathetic towards a woman many scholars prefer to view as vain, conceited, detached from reality. History tends to demonize Marie and her husband in a gory effort to ‘enjoy’ their beheading by a ‘democratic’ mob. That said, the book is readable, entertaining, and more than passably accurate – – – in short, terrific. Peace….
