Has anyone overcome a weight gain issue in a breastfed baby, WITHOUT supplementing?
Good for you to not give in! I did give in when my underweight preemie didn’t gain back her birthweight until she was nearly a month old. I can follow the chain of events from her early birth and getting supplementation in the NICU, then home supplementation, directly to my discontinuing nursing her at 5 months. Once you take a step in that direction, it gets easier and easier to just give bottles. In order for me to continue operating (history of depression), I had to just shut off the part of my heart that wanted to keep nursing and nursing and nursing because it just wasn’t going to happen. This is my theory – the averages that the doctors use to compare weights are baloney when it comes to babies breastfed exclusively. It is well known that breastfed babies tend to be slimmer than formula babies. Did you know that according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, only 46% of American babies are breastfed exclusively at birth? By the age of six months, only 17% of babies are exclusiv
