No. To date no one in Australia has been diagnosed with vCJD. But this does not mean we will not see this disease in the future. Unfortunately, with the ease of travel, and the lengthy period during which contaminated beef was available in the UK and possibly elsewhere, we have to expect that one day we will see vCJD in Australia.

As at October 2009, no one in Australia has been diagnosed with vCJD. In the years to come, a very small number of Australian cases of vCJD might be detected in those who have eaten beef or beef products while living in the UK.
