Has anyone heard of Elvine Travel agency before?
Looks like I’m another “lucky winner” of a major prize from Elvine Travel! I also received the scratchy cards in the mail and, going by the way it was addressed, I would say the names have been randomly taken from the phone book. Being somewhat sceptical, and also admittedly a tiny bit hopeful, I decided to look into the company. The website is a worry with no further info on this promotion being available and also asking for a login – not seen that before. Could also find no trace of this company through the Malaysian business directory and it is not listed as one of the shops/companies in Gurney Plaza. My next move was to google “Elvine Travel scam” and here I am making my first ever post as I want to confirm to others what’s going on. A couple of good indicators that this is a scam are the conditions on the back of the cards stating that winners are obliged to provide info for verification and that they may be obliged to submit taxes or other charges – I imagine this is how they hop
I don’t know them – but if you did not contact this agency directly to enter a competition, then how could you receive a promotional prize?? Malaysia is unfortunately a hotbed of internet scams. And travel scams are all over – mail, phone and internet. So you can’t be too careful. A lot of time these travel “promotions” are actually a discount that everyone gets. They might say the normal price of a package is $3000 per person but as a prize winner you get a $1000 credit so it’s only $2000. But everyone gets the same story and nobody actually pays the $3000. Or the “free” vacaion only includes the hotel room – you have to buy your flights, but through their agency, you have to pay extra for ground transportation, food, etc and it might come out more expensive than if you booked the trip on your own. As long as you don’t need to make an international call, I would get all of the terms and conditions of the promotional prize IN WRITING before you agree to anything or give any personal or
