Has anyone had back surgery for compressed nerves?

I am a little confused by the question. The thoracis spine contains nerves that control the thoracic area or the ribs section. The conus starts at L-3 and the nerves therein are associated with the legs. So the question becomes which area are you talking about? If it has to do with the thoracic area one has to think long and hard about any surgical procedure in that area as it is very difficult to stabilize. The lower back has been one of the two more traditional areas of surgical stabilization. Here again it must be remembered that half of all back surgeries don’t work. If you have not been in physical therapy then start and if you have been in a program before perhaps a different therapist. One could also try acupuncture with someone that has at least five years of experience in that field. Hypnosis is also a way of controlling the pain.
