Has anyone had a rat which required tumor removal?
I had tumour removed from a rat once. I don’t remember much about the actual procedure, but the vet had me on the phone and alerted me as to how the surgery was going now and then. It’s worth noting that rats do not have to fast before surgery, as they cannot vomit. I believe the surgery lasted pretty long, at least a few hours. After the vet gave us the option of having the tumour dissected to see if it was malignent or not. If you are not certain, ask the vet of his or her experience operating on small mammals. You can request they have someone call you halfway through the surgery to let you know how your rat is doing. Unless you plan to go to another clinic, its best to trust the vet to be able to do their job properly.
