Has anyone had a partial knee replacement?
Partial knee replacement has a much shorter lifespan than a total knee, it’s a more technically challenging surgery, and you had better have a lot of confidence in the surgeon putting it in. PKR surgery doesn’t last as long because the patients are typically more active, the technology isn’t as advanced as Total knee replacement implants, and again… the surgery is technically challenging. Component wise, the Biomet Oxford Unicompartmental knee replacement is considered to be the gold standard by some, but it’s almost 30 year old technology, and recent papers show that the success rate is only really about 80 percent (Biomet boasts closer to 96 percent, but the only surgeons involved in those studys are designing surgeons and they discounted many mechanical failures without just cause).
