Not that I’m aware of, but Bill Masterton of the Minnesota North Stars died from a head injury sustained vs. (I think the California Golden Seals.) This happened in about 1968, and is the reason #19 is retired by the North Stars/Stars. The NHL’s annual Masterton Award is named for him, and is annually awarded to a player who perserveres through adversity and/or injury.
