Has anyone applied for childrens tax allowance?
Yes there was a deadline of 31st January 2009 for people to claim the Children’s Tax Credit (CTC) tax relief for 2002-2003.. If the child is under 16 prior to 2002-2003 starting and you look after the child you may be able to claim. Most people claimed the tax relief through their tax code 5 years ago but due to broad media coverage people have been encouraged to ensure they receive this tax relief before the deadline. The payment now, if due, would be paid by cheque accompanying a tax calculation for this the 2002-2003 tax year. That alone will take 2 weeks to arrive and it could take up to a month for your claim to be reviewed. Therefore i would expect all claims to be seen to by the start of March, if you have had no response at all by the end of February I would call and ask for progress.
