Belly button piercings routinely get very infected. Several people I know had bad infections which required medical attention and antibiotics. It isn’t a part of your body where it’s easy to clean a piercing, since one side of the piercing is down in your belly button. It’s also a naturally dirty part of your body, since sweat collects there, and it gets rubbed a lot by your clothes, irritating the piercing. As for the absolute worst case scenario, if you really want it, I think a friend in Australia wins this one. She passed out outside the piercing shop when she looked at the new piercing, hitting her face on the glass window and a ledge on the building. She broke her jaw, got a concussion, knocked out several teeth, had to be hospitalized and have her jaw wired shut for weeks.
