Has anybody had luck growing potatoes in bags?

I’ve never tried growing them in bags but I have grown them in trash cans. It worked well for me and the bag method should be very similar. When I planted mine in the trash cans I started with 6 inches of potting soil, laid the cuts on top and covered them with 2 inches of potting soil and just a little 10-10-10 fertilizer. When the new growth reached 6 inches I added more potting soil and a little more fertilizer. Each time the growth reached around 6 inches I added more filler, sometimes old hay or leaves and sometimes potting soil, always with a little fertilizer. When they reached the top of the trash can I filled it level with the top, added one last dose of fertilizer and waited. When the vines had bloomed and began dying off I emptied the trash cans and dug out my crop; around 20 pounds per can with a low of 12 and a high of 33. Since I had 12 cans it made enough for my family to use through the winter. The bags should have approximately the same results. Good luck and enjoy!
