We are hoping to get to the Lake District (UK) for a week’s break and would prefer not to go self-catering, for once. We have one dog and she’s crate trained and we’d have her in it overnight, and out in the car during our mealtimes. I’ve approached Hotels saying they are ‘dog friendly’ on their websites, only to find this is NOT the case. One replied recently saying they could not accept dogs in their rooms but had a ‘small cottage at the back of the Hotel with 5 rooms which were dog friendly’. I’m afraid I’m not about to be pushed to a ‘quarantine area’ at the rear of a Hotel – and incidentally be charged the same rate as a ‘normal’ Hotel room + a dog fee, because I want to travel with my dog. When dog owners in the UK holiday in the UK, they normally want to bring their dogs with them – otherwise I for one would go abroad where we’d get far more value for money in any case. We’d be looking at spending £1000 for one week at this Hotel. I’ve found this attitude towards people with dog
