Goldfish swimming bent?
A fish with a “bent” spine can develop this condition in a few ways: 1) This could a genetic problem, but only if the fish has always a curvature of the spine. 2) Serious vitamin deficiences can result in a “bent” spine. This condition will develop over time 3) Fish tuberculosis can cause a “bent” spine, but again, this will develop over time. 4) Stray electric current can cause a bent spine. Faulty or bare wiring can be introducing current into the tank. A lightning strike can also introduce current into the tank. 5) The fish could have been injured by the filter or possibly another tank mate. The loss of color and inactivity is most likely the result of poor water quality and/or temp. Ammonia and nitrites should be 0ppm and pH needs to be in the range of 6.5 – 7.8. The temperature in the tank for a goldfish needs to be 60F – 72F. Goldfish will become lethargic and lose color if water temps are too warm.
