In Karate, you should be practicing your “forms”, or Kata. The Kata are a practised sequence of movements, which the karate-ka must do with earnest precision. Also there may be some sparring involved with fellow karate-ka of the same rank. Later on as U progress you might practice more advanced processes like weapons. I think Tae Kwon Do may do board breaks and other feats but I have not witnessed my karate club (Kyokushin) do anything like that. Like the 1st dude said, this is all to show what you have learned; you must apply what you have been taught to prove you deserve the next rank..

Ok so you are going to be testing after 5 lessons? Not too sure what style you take? You my friend need to leave the school immedietly, because it is worthless. At our school your first testing will not happen for at least 2 months, minimum, and that is attending 3 two hour classes a week, and training at home. The school you go too are the type of school that gives karate a bad name for sure. What school do you attend and where is it at, as I would like to talk to your instructor. Again you need to find another school.
