Technopark has been relatively insulated from this phenomenon since the cost structure of the existing occupied space, about 700,000 sq. ft., is about 20-25 per cent that of space in the other well known parks in the country. At this cost level for quality infrastructure, it does not make sense to locate outside the park because the company ends up having to invest in basic critical infrastructure power and datacom in addition to shared facilities and amenities such as conference rooms, libraries, club, guest house and common security. Specifically, in Technopark’s case, only one company in the last one year has shifted out to `cheaper’ office space elsewhere in the city, and that was at the height of the crisis in the IT sector. There are a couple of cases where companies have opened `city’ offices but that is not from an economy standpoint but other organisational priorities.
