Given their repeated botched rescues, should the US military leave such tasks to the professionals?
On 9 September, four days after the kidnap, a British army raid rescued Farrell. Corporal John Harrison, a British soldier from the 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, Special Forces Support Group and Farrell’s interpreter, Sultan Munadi were killed. During his captivity, media organizations and Wikipedia imposed a news blackout on his kidnapping, similar to that which had taken place during the kidnapping of fellow New York Times journalist David Rohde a few months earlier, for fear that media attention would increase the risk to the captives. Honestly it happens. The British military is not perfect either. Get off of your high horse. These situations are extremely difficult to resolve and things do go wrong.
You don’t want a real answer. You just want us to agree with you and will probably pick the person who agrees with you the most no matter how wrong they may be as the best answer. It’s easy to criticize us from behind a keyboard when it’s doubtful you ever served. Yes, there are going to be some people who mess up. But nobody’s perfect, the UK and Israel don’t have perfect track records either. As for Jack, it’s obvious he doesn’t even know anybody in the military. You need a four year degree to be an officer and in order to be in Special Operations you have to score high on the ASVAB. I see kids everyday who score so low on the ASVAB they can’t get in at all, let alone as SF. Stupid people can’t get in, today’s military requires some intelligence.
